The ceramics from Castello dei Tre Cantoni are the primary chronological source<\/strong> for the project and key evidence of the castle’s position within the trade exchange network of medieval Sicily. The analysis of the assemblage is conducted by Dr Salvina Fiorilla<\/strong> (2018\u20132024 campaigns).<\/p>\n

Characteristics of the assemblage<\/h3>\n

The ceramic material comprises four main chronological-stylistic groups:<\/p>\n

A. Proto-majolica and early majolica (13th \u2013 early 14th c.)<\/h4>\n

Fragments of bowls and plates on a ring foot or flat base, with decoration painted in brown or brown-green tones. Wide rims and forms of the Gela<\/strong> type are typical. The material indicates that the building workshop was already active during the 13th\u201314th century.<\/p>\n

B. 14th\u201315th century ceramics (main Aragonese phase)<\/h4>\n

The most numerous diagnostic group for the Castello:<\/p>\n
