An interdisciplinary research project funded by the National Science Centre, Poland (grant no. 2021\/43\/B\/HS3\/01988<\/strong>), carried out in 2022\u20132026<\/strong> under the direction of Prof. S\u0142awomir Mo\u017adzioch<\/strong>. The aim of the research is to reconstruct the history of the castle Castello dei Tre Cantoni<\/strong> in Scicli in the light of new archaeological sources, and to contribute to the discussion on the origins, function and socio-topography of local centres of power in medieval Sicily.<\/p>\n

Research aims<\/h3>\n

The NCN OPUS 22 project aims to carry out a comprehensive investigation of the Castello dei Tre Cantoni (Castelluccio) castle on the San Matteo hill in Scicli. By combining non-invasive surveys<\/strong>, archaeological excavations<\/strong>, radiocarbon dating<\/strong> and analysis of movable finds<\/strong> , the research team verifies existing historical hypotheses and refines the chronology of the fortification, with particular attention to the main building phase in the 14th\u201315th centuries.<\/p>\n
